From below

Underneath the table,  
patiently he sat
Ignoring swinging trainers and the death stares of the cat

Never move a muscle , 
never blink an eye
Never lose the pie crust 
from the larder in the sky

No time for a hanky, 
dribble getting long
Flexed to pounce on morsels 
in his mouth, where they belong 

Doughy knees and aprons
Plates piled high with stuff
Every messy mealtime
Lurking in the fluff

Patiently he watches
Lighting fast he’ll rocket 
Hoping that cake topples 
From inside that Pocket 

Nose it softly wiggles
Trying to ascertain
Looking at their faces
Is it fish again?

Will this be his feast day
Saturate his greed ? 
Humphing on his haunches 
Even dogs hate swede.
