Sepia is a brown dyestuff with a hint of violet, derived from the ink sacs of cuttlefish or squid. The sacs are extracted, dried, and dissolved in dilute alkali, then filtered. The pigment is precipitated with dilute hydrochloric acid, washed, filtered, and dried. This chemically inert pigment is durable, used in drawing ink and as a monochrome watercolour.

How to make brown

It has been a wonderfully interesting week finding ways to create vintage looking paper, learn about mixing colours and concentrate on tonal values and atmosphere.. Oh and also where squid ink comes from!!
